There will be a short business meeting before the presentation.
Remember- this is our official annual business meeting.

Ted Dudre from the Friends of Fort Laurens will give a presentation about the history of the fort and dreams for the future of the site.

Ted is a retired 35 year science teacher at Plain Local schools in Canton.  He also taught at Home school cooperative for four years after that.

He lives in the City of Green where he is the vice president of the Green Historical Society.  They have just saved the only two room schoolhouse in the area and have several projects being planned to save Green history.

Ted re-enacts 4 time eras and considers himself a genealogist and amateur historian.   He is also involved with Plain Local Historical Society, Summit county Historical Society and Ohio Historical Connection.

Peggy Cartwright from Summit County Beekeepers Association
will present a program on Bees, Honey, and Pollinators. Peggy is a former Northamponite and has been a beekeeper for 31/2 years and a certified Summit County Master Gardener for 14yrs. She also holds a specialization in native pollinators from OSU Extension.

We’re pulling out the stuff! Here is a chance to see some of the artifacts that we have in storage. We are going to bring a sampling of what is in various storage locations that hasn’t seen the light of day in a long time.

August 2015 Meeting

Everyone is invited to our Annual Indoor Picnic August 24 2015 at the Old Town Hall at 5:30. Bring your favorite food dish and dinnerware. Beverages/cookies provided.

We will have an update on the Keyser House and the revised Bylaws, etc.

And what would our Indoor Picnic be without BINGO? Short, friendly games with a small prize for the winner.

Suitcases brimming with tools, clothing, sporting equipment, and miscellaneous treasures are sure to spark fond memories of yesteryear as we explore the nooks and crannies of Grandma’s Attic and Grandpa’s garage.

Ralph Pfingsten of the Northern Ohio Railway Museum will present a program on “The Ravenna Arsenal”. Most of us have heard of it, some of us have been to it or driven past it. Ralph will give us the whole story. He will also present some information about the wonderful trolley and interurban operating museum that is in our back yard.

Hello everyone.
For our March 23rd meeting John Burke will present his popular program on Woodland Indians. John is a well known Living History speaker who really brings the subject to life. This one is well suited for the kids, young and old.

There will be a short business meeting before the presentation. Hopefully, we’ll have more information about our attempts to preserve the Keyser Farm House.

The Sultana Disaster will be explored in a video
presentation of a program given by author Gene Eric
Salecker. The disaster occurred on the Mississippi River at
the close of the American Civil War. Mr. Salecker will present the known facts and probable details in this well researched program. There is monument in the Cuyahoga Falls Oakwood Cemetery to those from the area who were lost in the event.

Gene Eric Salecker is the author of the book Disaster on
the Mississippi: the Sultana Explosion. He has appeared on
the History Channel and PBS.

Join us as Theresa Chmielewski expounds on “Essential Oils: Medicine of the Bible That Still Works Today” This traditional approach to health is used by cultures throughout the world. “Old as the hills” they say, yet applicable to today’s ailments. You will have a chance to try a limited number of these.

There will be a short business meeting before the presentation. Hopefully, we’ll have more information about our attempts to preserve the Keyser House.

November 2014 Meeting

The Nov. meeting has been moved up due to Thanksgiving weekend. The meeting will be on November 17, 2014, at the Old Townhall,Business meeting at 6:30pm, program at 7:00-7:30pm.

The program will be exciting!. The “Cedar Valley Clogger” from Wooster, Ohio will preform a lively & educational dance program. The program was arranged by Ken Starcher, member. Chryse Brown wil provide refreshments.

PLEASE! attend the monthly meetings and hear updates regarding the Keyser Farmhouse Historic Rehab; Project. Saving our local history for future generations to enjoy is the responsibility of this organization and its members.

Get involved and be proud to give a unique gift to the next generation.
