Hands on History

Our March and April meetings will be work sessions. We have a lot of artifacts, pictures, documents and what-nots that need attention. We will try to have projects that don’t require a lot a skill, just patience. This is a chance to see what goes on behind the scenes of a museum or historical society. Everyone is welcome. You may wish to bring cotton gloves, latex or rubber gloves, magnifier, and reading glasses.

Also, if you haven’t purchased your NHS 50th Anniversary Cookbook, they will be available at the meeting. We may also have a one or two of the Remembrance Day pictures available, and if not, we’ll take orders for the next printing.

Murder, Mayhem & Mischief in Northampton

Why fear ghosts and legends when the darkness of humanity can be even scarier? Crime and Mayhem around Northampton, Ohio stretches back over 200 years and in that time many of its citizens have schemed, murdered, injured or otherwise been up to no good against their fellow man.

Join us as local author and historian Jerri Holland recounts the mysteries behind the stories, legends, and hushed rumors from the Township.

Also, if you haven’t purchased your NHS 50th Anniversary Cookbook, they will be available at the meeting.

Our February meeting program will be on Water Works Park

November 2018 Meeting

The Northampton Historical Society meeting is tonight, Monday, the 19th at the Olde Town Hall. Meeting will begin at 6:30pm this time. There will be refreshments and a business meeting. Since it is our annual meeting, we won’t have a program. We’re starting to plan for next year, so please bring your thoughts and suggestions, especially for a destination for our annual outing in June. Please join as a new member, renew your membership and purchase a Cookbook, they are almost half sold now.

June 2018 Outing

This year’s outing will be to the Summit County Historical Society’s Perkins Mansion on June 3rd 2018. Some of you may have been there in the past, but times have changed. From the SCHS web site they now have created a unique sensory-filled visit with self-guided tours and new interactive displays – and much more. (Non-flash photography is permitted).
Our tradition for the June outing is to select  another historical society to visit. Before the visit, we eat lunch at a nearby restaurant to enjoy friendship and a good meal. The restaurant visit is optional – you meet the NHS group at the Perkins Mansion for the tour..
The lunch location will be the, Akron Family Restaurant, located at 250 W. Market St; Akron, Oh. The restaurant is located just past the W. Market & Maple Street intersection. St Vincent Catholic Church is nearby on the left if you approach from the Downtown Akron.
Coming south towards Downtown, the restaurant is on the right side just past Jessers Auto. PLEASE be at the restaurant between 11:45 am and Noon. Akron Family Restaurant is now one of the favorite locations for some of Akron’s famous people to eat at. We will meet at the Perkins Mansion around 1:30 pm 1:45 pm..
The cost to visit the Perkins Mansion is $8.00 per person. HOWEVER, if 10 members come, the NHS can pay a group rate of $4.00 per person.
After the lunch, to go to the Perkins Mansion, you turn back onto W.Market to Maple by St. Vicent Catholic Church – continue on
through Maple to approach the Copley Rd.
Please come and enjoy something different.
